I believe in magic. There is deep magic in healing our relationship with our body.

I’m Jen Dean. (: I’ve known I was a photographer since I was a teenager - I used to carry my camera everywhere I went, a habit I’ve re-established with my 365 project. I’m a single mom to a wonderfully kind, funny, decidedly-not camera shy 15 year old, Charlie. I love cake, and black tea, and sometimes have both for breakfast. In the mornings you can often find me sitting on my patio with my journal, pulling animal /tarot cards to set my day with good intentions.
And you know what? I’m not always comfortable in front of the camera! So if you’re feeling camera shy, I can totally empathize. But I’m a pretty witty lady, and I’ll get us both laughing in no time. My goal is to get you to forget about the camera, so I can capture you as you really are.

My home base is South Portland, ME! (And yes! I DO love lobster! But not as much as my kiddo loves sushi. Suffice to say, we’re happy to be coast dwellers.) Our gorgeous state is constantly inspiring me with beautiful backdrops.
My studio is located in an old converted mill which overlooks the Presumpscot River in Westbrook, ME. The light and setting there is simply gorgeous.
If you’d like to work on location, please reach out to me! I’m always willing to travel to a client. I love finding creative locations to shoot you in a backdrop that enhances the idea you have in your mind’s eye. (Travel rates may apply.)

The initial investment (for all sessions except headshots) is $325 for your session fee. The session fee includes hair and makeup, the time I spend with you during the session and the time we’ll spend together at your ordering session. My images start at $225/per, with package rates offered for multiple prints. Most clients invest $1,700-$3,500 on images they love.
Business portraits are an investment of $300, which includes a digital image and the 15-minute session fee.
Please connect with me or my studio manager, though! We’re happy to answer any questions you might have.

I typically book 3-4 weeks in advance. If you are looking to book a particular date/time - please contact me as far in advance as possible!
If you are looking for a shorter session - my headshots only take 20 minutes - I’ll likely be able to squeeze you in sooner.
In the event that you need your session or images rushed, please note that that will require a surcharge, depending on the timing of the rush order.
General rule of thumb? If you’re thinking about wanting to work with me, reach out! That way, we’ve a much better chance of getting you in at the time you’d like.

Each session is different! And when you inquire, we will help walk you through what you and anyone else participating in the shoot can expect. (You can imagine business portraits and boudoir sessions are fairly different!)
Generally speaking, my sessions run about an hour. They are fun, relaxed, and the opposite of stuffy. We’ll chat on the phone before the session so I can have a good idea who you are, and you can hear my lovely (loud!) laugh prior to meeting.
If there are specific images you have in mind, or certain things you hope to capture, please let me know when you inquire! That way we can both have similar expectations so I can ensure we get you pictures I know you’ll love,

If you come in for a business session, you can expect your digital file proofs about 5-10 business days after our session. You can expect your images a day or two after making the final selection.
For all other sessions, we’ll set up a Zoom conference about 10-15 days after your shoot to review your images together. (This gives me ample time to edit and curate your portraits to my perfectionist standards)

Yes and no. (: For business portraits, yes.
For all other sessions I do not offer online galleries. I’ve found that they can drag out the ordering process, and, unfortunately, in the past they’ve led to clients sharing images that had not been purchased.
I walk all clients through their portraits via a Zoom conference. I’ve found this is the best way for clients to see the quality of the images, as well as having my help in choosing favorites and products!

Every image you purchase comes with the digital file and rights to that image.
In this digital age it’s important to me that the people I work with have physical copies of their portraits. I want you to remember how confident you were when you posed for me in light and lace or the way the evening light captured you just right, and how we laughed about how loud the birds were that evening. I want you to experience that every day, when you walk by the portrait(s) that you’ve hung in your home.

Visits to the studio are by appointment only :)
The studio is Suite 350 on the 3rd floor of the Dana Warp Mill, located at 72 Bridge St., Westbrook, ME. Parking can be tricky! Give yourself plenty of time. If you don’t see any spots directly in front, you may have to park in the lot at the end of the building.
Come in the main entrance with the big awning on the far left - look for the ramp, with the large “Dana Warp Mill” sign above it! It’s right across from Taco Poblanita Use that entrance, and walk straight forward to take the elevator to the 3rd floor. Then walk straight off elevator to the end of the hall, take a right, follow to the long hall to the end, take another right, and the studio is on the left. You will see a sign on the door for Jen Dean Photography!
If all else fails? Call me. I always have my phone on hand.
