Being in the Nude: A Lesson from Moira Rose

We recently asked a client what inspired her to call us and inquire about her first boudoir shoot.

She giggled, and said, have you seen Schitt's Creek?

I immediately remembered the episode she was referencing.

After Moira's long, glamorous Hollywood career, she is horrified to discover that all of her nude photographs are no longer on the internet.

She gives her younger friend the advice: “Take a thousand naked pictures of yourself, now. You may currently think "Oh, I'm too spooky." Or, "Nobody wants to see these tiny boobies. But believe me, one day you will look at those photos with much kinder eyes and say, "Dear God, I was a beautiful thing."

Okay, so as boudoir photographers (and fans of Schitt's Creek) we might be a little biased… but Moira  is onto something.

There are still so many stigmas about embracing and being proud of the naked body. We worry what other's will think of us, or worse- what we will think of ourselves.

But the female form has been the one of the most prominent subjects in art throughout history.  And celebrating yourself and your body shouldn't be taboo. For many women, a boudoir session can be the first step towards self love, healing, and acceptance. Giving yourself permission to be captured and celebrated in photographs, rather than hiding, can be truly liberating.

You will never regret having beautiful images of yourself - not today, tomorrow, or years down the road.

Thanks for the advice, Moira!

P.S. Still not ready to bare it all?  That's okay! A little PSA: you don't have to be completely naked to take a “nude.” Subtly suggestive photos are some of our favorites!
